From Winter To Spring: Top 5 Hair Tips From SILKE London To Get You Through The Colder Months

“During the Winter time, take the opportunity to wash your hair less; once a week is enough.” - Maria Sotiriou, founder of SILKE London.

When the founder of SILKE London and hairstylist with 30+ years of experience, Maria Sotiriou, tells you to wash your hair less through the Winter… you wash your hair less through the Winter!

The colder Winter months can be hard on your hair. Between extreme weather and central heating it’s easy for you to pop your hair in a bun and call it a day until Spring, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

Follow Maria’s top 5 tips and watch your hair thrive through the end of the Winter season.

Tip 1: Use quality products.

“Using great quality products on your hair is just as important as it is for your skin; it’s an investment. The cost will end up balancing out because you’ll need far less to see the benefits. A hair wash once a week is really all you need!”

Tip 2: Keep heat to a minimum.

“If you’re not into air drying, make sure to blow-dry your hair properly with a high quality boar hair brush post hair wash. Putting the effort into your blow-dry will mean less heat, less maintenance and less effort for the following days.

Wearing your SILKE Hair Wrap nightly will prolong your hard work and styling for the whole week, keeping any grease or frizz at bay, until it’s time for another hair wash.”

Tip 3: Smart colouring choices.

“For blondes, it’s always a great idea to add some different tones through the hair to add depth for the colder months. This will lessen the porosity of the hair which can really give your hair’s health a helping hand. It’s not permanent either; it’ll naturally fade out ready for a refresh in the Spring.”

Tip 4: Treat your mane to oils.

“Oil treatments are your BFF’s, especially throughout the Winter months.

Every 2 weeks, right before your hair wash, warm your hair up with a blow-dryer then massage an oil of your choice into your hair and scalp. My favourites are olive, almond or coconut oils.

Leave it in for a minimum of 1 hour, then apply shampoo and continue with your hair wash routine as normal. It’ll give your hair and scalp a boost right when you need it.”

Tip 5: Make the switch.

“Two super easy switches to make that will have a wonderful effect on your hair. First up, switch your conditioner for an intensely hydrating hair mask; leaving this on for 15 minutes at the end of your hair wash routine will save your hair from any Winter dryness. And secondly, your hair ties - get rid of your regular hair ties, they’re infamous for causing snapping, snagging and kinks, all without you realising. The SILKE Hair Ties are 100% pure silk and will slide in and out of your hair without damaging a single strand!”
